Heritage Walk In Old City Jodhpur– A Memorable Experience

I have been busy all this while taking my interests more seriously – Food, Travel and Photography. I first started with the blog and now am also actively present on Instagram and Facebook sharing my stories with the world. There’s so much more to achieve and am just blessed and grateful to have supportive family and friends who keep motivating with whatever I do. I explore narrow lanes, upscale restaurants and street food of Jodhpur, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Jaipur and other cities I travel to. So a couple of days back I along with my cousins went for Heritage walk in Old city Jodhpur. There is a certain charm about the narrow lanes, heritage sites, beautiful homes and of course the sights, sounds and aroma of the Sardar Market near the Clock Tower. Clock Tower also called Ghanta Ghar is a landmark site in the old city and is stunning in every way.

The next site was Toorji Ka Jhalra also known as Stepwell Of Jodhpur. Yet another iconic site in the old city, Toorji Ka Jhalra is a remarkable invention to collect and save water for public use. You can sit on the steps and see the sun rising gradually and welcome a peaceful day ahead of you. Just 5 minutes walk from here will lead you to another stepwell in Jodhpur – Mahila Bagh ka Jhalra. Old city is a famous tourist spot for the foreigners who want to experience the rich local culture and the way of life of people here. The area also has a number of hostels and hotels with modern amenities to make your stay pleasant and memorable.

Heritage walk is incomplete without savoring the sweets and snacks from sweets and Namkeen shops in the Sardar Market. Apart from food, the market has shops that sell textile, handicrafts, silver and more. Our first stop was Solanki sweets, famous for Pyaaz ki kachori which is a spicy Rajasthani snack. Crunchy from outside and soft from inside, kachori is a deep fried pastry with filling of onion and potato prepared in spices. After giving a spicy start to the day we wanted to have some sweet and headed straight to have Motu Ki Jalebi. A famous Rajasthani sweet which is wafer crispy, fried in desi ghee and smeared in sugar syrup.

Next stop was Raju Namkeen Bhandar, they serve some of best potato chips and pyaaz k mirchibade (green chilli stuffed with a filling of spicy onion and potato and dipped in a batter of gram flour and deep fried). People of Jodhpur, Jodhpuri, like to have local flavors in everyday food and hence they enjoy such snacks. Our next stop was Narayan Mishthan Bhandar where we had mogar kachori fried in desi ghee. To end our walk on a sweet note we had famous lassi and rabri from Mishrilal Rabri.
